Mapping the Information Highway:

Finding out which sites are appropriate for business could be a very challenging task if it were not for the concerted work of many dedicated researchers and organizations who have mapped many of the outstanding sites along the Information Highway.

Kapri Konsulting has recently launched a new Internet Business Resource web site. It is a free resource for existing and prospective business owners. This site is easy to navigate and offers over 700 links to business related web sites. Check out all it has to offer at:

Tip of the Month
Unzipping Files Many files are compressed (zipped) to save disk space and to save time when transmitted over the Internet. In the U. S., we are most familiar with the .zip extension, but globally there are many compression schemes with extensions like .arj, .gz, .lzh, etc. - each requiring a matching unzip-type program (which are discussed in detail at: Multimedia File Formats on the Internet - Compression section (by Allison Zhang) <http://www.lib.rochester.edu/
multimed/contents.htm>

Two programs which are free are: PKunzip, zip for Win95 (PKWare)

miscutil/pk2602ad.exe/>

and wunz.exe WizUnZip - Decompresses, tests, and displays zip files via WIN3.1

Searching the Net Safely Many search engines have begun to provide their own filters for students and family members: Two such examples are:

Top Freeware Review:
1st Contact: This contact management program is a compact program (under 800K) which allows a certain amount of customization for personal and business database entries. With a working modem installed, the autodial feature allows local or long distance calling to be

accomplished by the click of a mouse (and entries can be typed into the Notes section during the session). This freeware version of 1st Contact is designed for Win 3.x and will not run under Win 95/98/NT (but for those who want the 32-bit version, it can also downloaded from Jsoftconsulting.com).
